White sandy beaches and flowering Pohutukawa trees over the summer months make Whiritoa Beach a popular spot on the Coromandel. The shore at Whiritoa is steep, which can result in heavy shore breaks that can be dangerous. The secluded Waimama Bay is only a 15 minute walk away from Whiritoa Beach. Water quality is monitored at this site from November through March.
