Waikoko is a secluded, shady beach located at the far west end of Hanalei Bay and a famed surf site. Hawaiians named this location Waikoko, which translates to "blood water" probably because of the red mud washing off the hillside. There is limited free parking on the roadside, but to get to the beach you must climb down from the highway. Waikoko's waters are shallow, and there is a lagoon that can be nice to swim in under calm ocean conditions. Otherwise, the waters tend to be choppy with dangerous rip tides. There are no amenities at this beach, adding to its rustic Hawaiian charm.
