Waipapa Dam is the smallest power station in the Waikato River power generating scheme. The Waipapa River joins the Waikato River at the dam gates. This man made lake is well known for its brown and rainbow trout catches. The center point of the Waitako River Trails is accessible from the dam. It has been assigned with an advanced level on the Waitako River grade system. The trail starts at Atiamuri and finishes at the Pokakwhenua Bridge, extending 100 km along the river.
