Water samples are collected using a bucket off the bridge, the black disk and blue-green algae samples are collected nearby at the boatramp in the lake. The river around the bridge is lined with native trees on the upper banks and willow on the lower banks close to the river. The substrate consists of some boulders but pumice sand dominates.
