Wades Beach
Shelter Island, New York, United States
Wades Beach is on the south side of Shelter Island on the sound and has wide, sandy beaches, lifeguards, and a shallow swimming area making it a great spot for children. Lifeguards are on duty during summer months. It is one of the five official town beaches that require a triangular beach permit for access after Memorial Day between 9am-5pm. Any vehicle with a license plate must have a valid parking permit or you risk a parking violation of $100. Beach permits are free for residents; however, visitors can obtain a permit at a cost of $35 per week, $75 per month, or $200 for the season. No day permits are sold. No dogs are permitted at any time, but beach fires and barbeques are welcome. A beach driving permit is required for all beach driving. Be sure to respect the rights of the private property, which abuts the beach. This is a Tier III beach.
