Swanquarter Bay (N74)
Swan Quarter, North Carolina, United States
Swanquarter Bay is located on Pamlico Sound. It's saltwater marsh is well known for activities such as boating, wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, fishing and hunting. The Swanquarter Wildlife Refuge was established in 1932. It provides habitat protection for alligators, bald eagles, migratory waterfowl and other birds and animals. Many people think Swanquarter received its name from the abundance of swans in the area. It is actually named after Samuel Swann, a Speaker of the Colonial Assembly and official representative of Onslow in the Assembly in the 1700's.
