Surfer's Knoll Beach
Ventura, California, United States

This beach feels much more remote than the location suggests, due to the large dunes that shield the beach from adjacent Ventura Harbor. Parking is also limited and there are no formal beach facilities, although there are some small stores and restaurants located on the harbor. The coastline to the south is undeveloped for a couple miles, which makes for great beach walks along uncrowded sands. The Santa Clara River Estuary (closed to the sea most of the year) makes for good birding and beach combing, although one will see large amounts of trash that is carelessly discharged from upstream as well.
