St Heliers Bay
Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand

A beautiful white sandy beach separates St. Heliers Bay from a newly renovated boardwalk and children's playground. The area has tons of free parking and 9 public buses stop steps away from the bay making it one of the most accessible beaches. Glover Park is just to the east of the bay. It was originally a volcano that erupted 50 000 years ago and became a maar. This shallow lake drained and filled with sand and dirt, converting it to a sports field. For a long time boats were the primary way of accessing this small suburb and a 1,500-foot-long pier (460 m) was created. Remnants of the pier can still been seen at low tide.
