Smith Point County Park Beach
Shirley, New York, United States
Smith Point Beach, the last of the large Long Island beaches before you hit the Hamptons, sits at the end of William Floyd Parkway and is usually the beach of choice for Brookhaven Town residents. This public beach offers great surf, a concession stand known as the Beach Hut, fishing, and campsites for those who want to spend a night on the beach. It also borders the Fire Island Wilderness, 1,380 acres of trails and campgrounds that are part of the Fire Island National Seashore. There is live music during the week and weekends during summer months as well as a pedestrian access tunnel, restrooms, showers, and a children’s playground. A permit is required for off-road vehicles. Pay to park and no alcohol allowed. There is also a clothing-optional beach area about a mile past the winding boardwalk. This is a Tier III beach.
