Shem Creek Park is located right off of Coleman Blvd, and is a popular spot for fishing, kayaking, and SUPing. The park is open from 5AM-12AM, and free parking (included accessible spots) is available in the lot by the entrance. Public restrooms are also located next to the entrance, as well as trash cans, recycle bins, and benches. The main features of the Shem Creek Park are its ADA accessible boardwalks that stretch across the creek and marsh, giving excellent views of the wetlands and the wildlife living there. It also connects to the East Coast Greenway, a 2600 mile long paved trail for non-motorized transportation along the east coast of the United States. Shem Creek Park is a great place to go for those interested in seeing Charleston’s wetlands up close and exploring its waterways!
Shem Creek begins in Mount Pleasant near the intersection of Highway 17 and 526. The creek slowly meanders past several residential neighborhoods before reaching the Coleman Blvd. bridge. Past the bridge the creek is lined with a mix of restaurants, bars, public docks, private residences, and commercial fishing docks.
