In 1995, the Shell Point Surfing club and other citizens petitioned the State for funding to purchase the privately owned beach located on the northern edge of the Apalachee Bay. The park is now managed by Wakulla County. Visitors enjoy swimming, boating, scuba diving, kayaking, and windsurfing. The Shell Point Surfing club offers free windsurfing lessons. The club provides the park with access to onsite amenities such as restrooms, a playground, covered pavilions and boat launch.
