Shackelford Banks (C59A)
Beaufort, North Carolina, United States

Shackleford banks is a barrier island system on the coast of Carteret County. It is home to feral horses, scallops, crabs and a variety of sea animals, including loggerhead turtles. The last residents on the island left in 1902 but it is stilled visited by day tourist and overnight campers. Visitors can take a ferry onto the island from Morehead City, Beaufort, or Harkers Island. This long stretch of sand over offers visitors a small resting place with restrooms.
