On Hatteras Island, just before you enter Rodanthe heading south on highway NC 12, there is a set of twisty turns in the road known as the "S" turns. You can park your car along the road and cross over the dunes to see this popular stretch of beach known for its natural beauty and dynamic shore. The S-turns are often very busy with surfers, who come here for the perfect waves, and the spectators that cheer them on. The area is also famous for the house that was featured in the Richard Gere film, Nights In Rodanthe.
