Playita Rosada
Lajas, Puerto Rico, United States
Playita Rosada is located to the east of the main Parguera area, in Lajas, in the south-west part of the island. This is a lovely local place to spend a day with the family. It boasts a nice ocean swimming area. Playita Rosada is a nature reserve co-managed by the DNRA (the Department of Natural Resources) and the municipality of Lajas. Facilities include bathrooms, showers, picnic tables and picnic pavilions (for rent for groups)— and it is all handicapped accessible. There are nature trails around the reserve with beautiful views of the ocean. The municipality of Lajas is finishing the construction of bike trails to make the area accesible by bike.
This beach used to have a "sea water pool" that enclosed an area of the ocean with fencing, from the surface to the ocean floor, in order to keep large fish and jellyfish out of the swimming area. Then a wooden deck was built around the whole pool area. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Isaias destroyed a large part of the boardwalk, destroying the pool in Aug 2020. In Sep 2022, Hurricane Fiona destroyed what was left. Now you can only see what remains below the water and from satellite photos.
