This beach access is on the northernmost part of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge on the ocean side. Parking is available along NC Highway 12 of Pea Island. The island is about 13 miles long and is mainly comprised of ocean beaches, dunes, upland, fresh water ponds, salt flats, salt marshes, and brackish ponds. Over 365 species of wildlife make up the refuge: 25 mammals, 24 reptilian species, and 5 species of amphibians. Many migratory birds make stops along the refuge, too. A great place to start tours of Pea Island is the visitors center. It is open from 9-5 every day in the summer and 9-4 every day in the off-season. There is no admission cost and you can find information on wildlife, wilderness trails, schedule canoe tours or get a list of local birds to view.
