The white sand of Omapere beach lines Hokianga Whakapau Karakia also known as the Hokianga Harbour. The long curved shape of the beach, fishing pier and proximity to walking trails make it an ideal location for swimming, fishing, boating and exploring.

According to tradition, this land was originally discovered by Kupe, a legendary Polynesian explorer and navigator settled in the region in 925 AD. In the 14th century, the area was inhabited by the Ngapuhi tribe and is thought to be the oldest settlement of the M?ori. In 1822 the first European ship landed in the harbour and the deforestation of Hokianga began soon after. Thankfully some areas were spared. Nearby you will find the Waipoua Forest, New Zealand's largest rainforest.
