Oak Lake
Sifton, Manitoba, Canada
The region was a popular stopping point for fur traders and settlers in the late 19th century because of the large number of oak trees, which is how the existing town got its name. Apart from agriculture, the most significant resource for the community of Oak Lake (population: 359) is Oak Lake itself. Situated approximately 15km from the town, it is a reputable location for fishing and watersports; visitors will often water ski, boat, or sail on the lake. However, it is not known for good swimming; an algae advisory is in place. Nearby, less water-inclined folks can enjoy the golf course at the Island Resort and Campground, or engage in a game of paintball at Lakeview Paintball, just out of town.
