Meola Reef

The Meola Reef or Te Tokaroa Reef in M?ori was formed by lava over 28 000 years ago. It now extends over 2 km across the Waitemata Harbour. Strong footwear is needed when exploring the reef during low tide as it is covered by rock oysters. Meola Reef Dog Par, Reserve, Seddon Falls and the Auckland Zoo are all within walking distance.
This beach has received special status of red. The area will continue to be monitored but warning signs have been posted as it has a history of poor water quality.
