This city owned and maintained beach offers about two acres of beach access along the eastern end of the island. The east to west configuration of the barrier island makes it a prime shelling area, with the Gulf of Mexico's currents depositing a plethora of shells. A fishing pier located on San Carlos Bay welcomes visitors. The historic lighthouse still functions, and boardwalks provide pathways for nature studies along the wetland areas. Handicap accessible parking is free. Onsite amenities include a shell display, bike racks, outside showers, drinking fountains, restrooms and approximately 200 parking spaces. Beach operates 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., year-round. Parking fees apply. For beach wheelchairs, please contact the City of Sanibel’s Police Department at 239-472-3111.
