Lake Hawea enjoys excellent water quality and is generally safe for recreational activities. However, bacterial contamination can occur, commonly after rainfall. As with all water quality advice, it’s advised to wait 48 hours after rainfall before swimming. At this swimming site, which is near the holiday campsite, swimmers will enjoy a sheltered beach and floating pontoon to play. The boat ramp is nearby. It’s a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.
