Johnnie Mercer's Pier (S23)

This public beach access is located at the east end of Salisbury Street. Visitors can also check out Johnnie Mercer's Pier, a popular fishing and strolling spot. It is the only concrete fishing pier in North Carolina and one of the only piers to not charge a fee to walk on the pier. This access also has restrooms, showers, a gazebo, and is handicap accessible. There are lifeguard stands here with lifeguards on duty from 10am to 5pm in season. This beach access is open year round from 7am to 9pm. Surfing is prohibited within 500 feet of Johnnie Mercer's Pier, and surfers must be securely attached to their board with a leash. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, surfing is prohibited in areas located in front of each lifeguard stand. Kiteboarders must stay at least 100 yards offshore from the "No Surfing" areas.
