The Inkwells are natural fresh water swimming holes located within Samuel P. Taylor State Park. These natural wonders are positioned along the Lagunitas Creek which is a major supply of drinking water to the local Marin County area. Lagunitas Creek flows into the Pacific Ocean on one end and along another section of the creek, the construction of Peters Dam formed Kent Lake in 1954. It is said that the Inkwells received their name due to their deep, dark mysterious nature. Within Samuel P. Taylor State Park there are plenty of hiking trails and areas for picnicking. These swimming holes are not supervised by lifeguards and are open year round for those who are brave enough to swim in the chilly winter waters.
