Howick Beach
Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand
Howick Beach is a tidal beach overlooking the Tamaki Strait. The Howick Volunteer Coastgaurd has patrolled the area since 1956, when it was originally managed and staffed by the members of the Howick Volunteer Fire Brigade. There is a dual concrete boat ramp off of Beach Road with ample parking and public toilets.
The Howick suburb is named after Henry George Grey, 3rd Earl Grey who was known as Viscount Howick from 1807 until 1845 when he succeeded to earldom. He was Secretary for the Colonies in the British Parliament, responsible for the Royal New Zealand Fencible Corps. The suburb was originally established as a defence post.
