Visitors to Hilton Head can enjoy the long, sandy beach, which has been named as one of the "top 10 family beaches in the country". The beaches are patrolled by the Hilton Head Beach Patrol. Animals are not permitted on the beach between 10am and 5pm from May through September. There are five beach access points in Hilton Head, but most hotels and Plantations also offer beach access for their guests. Activities including fishing and surfing are only permitted in non-designated swimming areas. In addition to water activities, the resort town also has many restaurants, golf courses, shops, and vacation rentals.
