Sag Harbor, New York, United States

Havens Beach, Sag Harbor's only, is a public beach on Sag Harbor Bay. During the 1800s African Americans settled here as part of the whaling industry. After WWII, Sag Harbor became an popular and important beach and recreational spot for Black people during the brutal years of segregation in the USA. Sag Harbor has been robust black waterfront community and a destination for black tourists when few waterfront recreational beach locations were accessible to African-Americans.

Havens Beach is your typical scenic Peconic Bay treasure, with a view of Shelter Island’s coast in the distance and sailboats on the smooth bay waters. There is a playground, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, and a gazebo. Both resident and non-resident parking stickers are mandatory and are available at the Sag Harbor Municipal Building. No alcohol, fires, or cars allowed on the beach. This is a Tier II beach.
