Harpswell: Mitchell Field Beach
Harpswell, Maine, United States
Before being transferred by the federal government to the Town of Harpswell in 2001, Mitchell Field Beach was a former U.S. Navy fuel depot. The 120 acre area contains numerous paved and gravel paths, and a sandy beach, making it ideal for hiking, cycling, and swimming. Other features within the grounds are a stage that hosts outdoor concerts, and the Harpswell Community Garden.
Mitchell Field Beach is protected by the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust which has conserved over 1600 acres of land since 1983 through its objectives to protect the natural and cultural resources of Harpswell, Maine.
