This freshwater stream feeds Hanama'ulu Bay, causing onshore waters to be murky in the bay. Despite a lack of "Brown Water Warnings" from the Hawaii Department of Health, the Surfrider Foundation strongly reccomends staying out of the stream because bacteria levels tend to be very high. Despite the polluted stream water, the Hanamaulu Beach Park is a nice family-friendly park with a playground, bathroom and free parking.
