Historically, the Old Ponquogue Bridge was the only access point from Hampton Bays to the Atlantic Ocean until a second stationary Bridge was constructed. The Ponquogue Bridge Marine Park on Shinnecock Bay provides boaters, fisherman, and swimmers access to calm water just east of the Ponquogue Bridge. Very popular with scuba divers as one of the best shore dives on Long Island, due to the abundant marine life along the bridge and proximity to clear ocean water. Popular fishing pier and boat ramp attract plenty of visitors spring through the fall. A town of Southampton Permit is required during the summertime, and porta potties are located onsite. Also at the Old Ponquogue Bridge Marine Park, there is a dog walk trail, a fishing pier, and a boat launch.
