Gore Bay

Nearby to the tiny township of Cheviot, Gore Bay has a quiet beach good for swimming or surfing. There are toilets, showers, and changing rooms available, as well as space for parking. After a swim in the bay, visitors may want to spend some time in the area exploring Cathedral gully, a majestic clay canyon.
Wave-exposed sandy beach. Great for surfing. Be mindful of wildlife (seals) on the beach. Can have high waves with strong under currents. Parking above beach and on road side. Playground and toilets located at camping ground, north of sampling location. Monitored weekly between November-March by Environment Canterbury.
