This 20 hectare lake, the focus of a Gillies Lake Conservation Authority rejuvenation project in 1986, is located in the heart of Timmins. It is the site of the very popular Gillies Lake Promenade, a 2.5km trail that can be accessed from various points around the lake and remains well lit at night. The beach area features a large playground and a supervised swimming area, making it popular with families. The Conservation Area also boasts a boardwalk, interpretive storyboards, a recreation field and wireless hotspots at the beach and on the field. Public washrooms, picnic facilities and 2 parking lots are present at the beach, making Gillies Lake a well-loved destination for locals and visitors alike. The area can be accessed from Park Road off of Algonquin Blvd. East, from Highway 655, or off the Lakeshore Road cul-de-sac.
