Floating Stone Lake is named after a massive, solitary stone that used to rise from the water. Typical of many lakes in the area, the receding water levels now expose a "floating stone."

The beach is family friendly and popular because of its size and amenities of the day use area and campground. The waters of the lake usually becomes pretty green in the summer months because of algal growth.
