East Lyme - Black Point Beach (Nehantic)
East Lyme, Connecticut, United States
This private beach and fishing pier is open to residents of the Black Point Beach Community (not to be confused with residence of the Old Black Point Beach Community). This area was originally inhabited by the Nehantic people before European contact. The tribe was an ally to the colonists but died out in the mid 19th century. In 1870 the Nehantics were declared extinct and the 300 acre Black Point reservation was sold, however in 1998 Nehantic Tribe and Nation was incorporated.
