Doheny State Beach is just south of the Dana Point harbor and includes oceanfront camping and picnic areas. The beach provides a beautiful long beachfront and five-acre lawn with picnic tables, food and concessions, as well as changing rooms and wheelchair-accessible board walks. In addition Doheny offers a great overnight campground equipped with fire rings, trailer sanitation stations, tables and drinking water; a great location for out of town surfers or families to stay. Surfing allowed in designated areas at the north end of the beach. Four sites are wheelchair accessible, beach wheelchairs accessibility for boardwalk at north end from picnic area onto sand; wheelchair-accessible fire rings at south end. The off-shore area is an underwater park for divers. There are some sites for hikers and bicyclists. The San Juan Creek Bikeway, which runs along the west side of the creek, begins just north of Doheny and continues inland along the creek past San Juan Capistrano (source: CA Coastal Commission).

The Mid-Beach Site is located about 250 feet north of where the San Juan Creek discharges into the Pacific Ocean.
