At low tide, the beach at Departure Bay expands into a wide strip of wet sand and shallow tidal pools, perfect for beachcombing. Only a short walk from the ferry terminal, exercise enthusiasts can take advantage of the seawall that runs along the length of the beach and those looking for relaxation can stretch out on the sand or the grassy area at the south end of the beach. Benches and picnic tables are also at the south end of the beach. Departure Bay is also a popular beach-launch for kayakers looking to explore the coastal waters.
