The Cowichan River Provincial Park is popular for the river running through it; the Cowichan River is also now a Provincial Heritage River due to its wild salmon and steelhead fishery. There is a small boat launch at Stoltz Pool campgrounds area and there are pit toilets throughout the park along with cold water hand pumps that need to be boiled.

Many outdoor activities are offered here: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and horseback riding.

Adults should supervise children, and all swimmers and paddlers should take precautions, due to the fast currents in the river.
