The Clive River is the lower part of the Karamu Stream and opens into the Waitangi estuary, creating a large body of relatively calm water that is popular for a wide range of recreation and sports - rowing, waka ama, kayaking, kite surfing, water skiing and jetskiing. The river is generally not suitable for swimming.

This river site is monitored fortnightly and water quality sampling indicates it often has poor water quality.

Freedom camping is only permitted for self-contained vehicles.

This site has permanent signage because water quality criteria can often be exceeded. Recreational water quality re-sampling from the Monitoring team does not occur here.
