Cedar Island is a small fishing community located near the mouth of the Neuse River in Pamlico Sound. The Cedar Island Wildlife Refuge comprises more than half of the Island.

Cedar Island Beach is located on Pamlico Sound. The beach is located next to the Cedar Island - Ocracoke Ferry. The wide sandy beach is lined with juniper trees.
