South Beach is at the south end of Buntzen Lake, which is north of the village of Anmore in B.C.'s Lower Mainland. The lake is a reservoir with cool waters. It's a popular spot on hot weekends, so check conditions ahead of time, or get there early to get parking and your spot on the beach. Buntzen Lake was created in the early 1900s with the construction of the Buntzen power plant, the first hydroelectric power in the Vancouver area that replaced the young city's previous steam power plant.

Amenities include picnic shelters, dog areas, canoe rentals and washrooms with potable water. No power boats are permitted on this lake.

As this lake is used to generate power, please be sure to adhere to all posted safety signs. Please remember to clean your waste or take it home with you. Respect all wildlife by not feeding them and keeping your distance.
