Betterton Beach
Betterton, Maryland, United States

Before the construction of the Bay Bridge, Betterton was a huge beach town resort with a booming harbor, pier, and was affectionately called the “Jewel of the Chesapeake.” Betterton, although now smaller, is still a popular beach destination located at the mouth of the Sassafras River. It has a large sandy beach front for swimming and relaxing, a jetty perfect for fishing, a picnic pavilion and bench area, and a bathhouse with bathrooms and showers. While swimming is allowed, there are no lifeguards on duty, so swim at your own risk. There is a beach volleyball court on the beach. A boat launch is located next to the beach with transient docking. There are two large parking lots located across and next to the beach. Kent County public landing permits are required for trailers but beach parking is free.
