Among our region's most popular park destinations, Barton Park is a recreational gem located on the Clackamas River. This one of a kind park features camping, hiking, multiple day use and event amenities, and a variety of river recreation opportunities.

NOTE: Swimming in the Clackamas (or floating in a tube, like most visitors do), means getting in relatively cold water (released from Estacada Lake each day, thus from the depths of a cold reservoir), with temperatures ranging from 54 degrees Fahrenheit in June to high 60’s by late August. Currents are swift and pools deep. Be prepared (towels, warm clothes, waterproof bag for your phone, water, sunscreen).

There are rocky beaches and shallow to deep pools along the half mile park border. There is also a riffle between pools in that section (beware of strong currents!).

Only VERY comfortable swimmers should swim without a lifejacket.

Between the first hot days in late June through Labor Day, the river draws tens of thousands of floaters and swimmers to the cool and relatively easy riffles of the lower Clackamas (22 miles from Estacada to Oregon City). The Barton to Carver section is by far the most popular, but people are learning to disperse on the other 17 miles of equally beautiful, accessible, and invigorating river.

Barton Park is located on the Clackamas River just off of Highway 224, approximately four miles south of the unincorporated community of Boring. Barton Park is the largest and most popular county park, encompassing 122 acres and offering 112 campsites; 103 with water and electric hookups. Other park and recreational amenities include playground equipment, horseshoe pits, two volleyball courts, five picnic shelters, other picnic areas, a softball field and one boat ramp on the Clackamas River. Barton Park is a popular rafting destination due to its proximity to Portland and connection to the Carver Boat launch approximately six miles downstream.
