Taking its name from an early landowner in the area, Moncks Bay faces the South Brighton spit and sits below the grassy Clifton Hill. The famed Christchurch Yacht Club calls this bay home, but swimmers should take note of powerful tidal currents in the waters and take extra care.

Sandy beach adjacent to yacht club. This site has deep water and is commonly used to launch boats and for fishing. Monitored weekly between November-March by Environment Canterbury.
