Atlantic Beach (17th Avenue S)

Atlantic Beach is nestled between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. Atlantic Beach was nicknamed Black Pearl when, during the Jim Crow era. In the harshly segregated state the beach became both a refuge and a rare waterfront recreational site for Black Americans. Atlantic Beach was founded in the 1930s. Local Black domestic workers from the area hotels and homes, Blacks from across the eastern United States vacationed there, Farm workers came from local tobacco all used this flourishing beach.
This beach access at 16th Avenue South is part of North Myrtle Beach's six miles of beautiful sandy beaches. In addition to relaxing on the beach and swimming, there are many activities to be enjoyed at North Myrtle Beach. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 9am and 5pm from May to September. Surfing is only permitted at designated beach areas.
